Lyngvika Resort opened in 2020 at 11 Kajvägen in Umeå, on the riverside looking out over the Ume River and the surrounding boreal forest. The project began as a brief to a design team with a background in Swedish-modern hospitality: build a hotel and casino resort that sits inside its setting rather than competing with it. The brief has not changed since.
It is not the largest hotel and casino resort in the region and was never meant to be. It is considered, restrained, and built to be returned to.
The property holds all 300 rooms and suites, almost all of them view-facing. The casino wing sits at the centre and covers 58,000 square feet on a single open level with glass to the view. The spa and pool, the fitness centre, and the theatre and The Ume Room event space are arranged around the central floor. Materials run to pale pine, soft grey stone, brushed steel, and heather-purple wool.
The lighting was tuned over many months — the casino floor is lit like a good bar at dusk, not a supermarket, and guests notice even when they cannot say why. The exterior has weathered into its setting since opening.
Lyngvika Resort is independently owned and operated. The general manager joined before opening after fifteen years running resort properties internationally, and the casino director has held gaming credentials for over a decade. Both have been with the hotel and casino resort since the first week.
All gaming staff are licensed under Swedish gaming regulation (Spelinspektionen). Hotel staff complete a four-week orientation before taking guest-facing roles. Staff retention is tracked as a performance metric and consistently ranks in the top quartile for the region's hospitality sector.
